What has linen to do with humans and nature? As human beings, we are connected to nature. Modern life makes us sometimes forget that we are connected to nature and part of it. It is good for us to spend time outdoors, like walking in the forest. Touching and feeling natural fibers can be a part of that too. Linen is completely natural which is good for our body. Other things like walking barefoot, using natural materials in our home and bathroom, and eating unprocessed food can contribute to feeling grounded and closer to nature. Wearing clothes other than syntectic materials can contribute to this factor as well. Unfortunately, fashion has often become a disposable product that harms the environment. Luckily more and more brands are aware of this problem, and they offer sustainable choices to their customers. At MAAN we try to limit our impact as much as possible. We use high-quality, hundred percent linen for our clothing meant to last a long time. Linen is biodegradable and won't take decades to break down compared to synthetic fibers.
Linen is not a trend, and it is timeless.
We don't want to run after trends; we want to provide clothing now and in the future. As a small clothing label, it's not our mission to sell massive amounts of clothing. We want you to be happy with our investment pieces for longer. So don't give you the idea that something you buy now isn't 'trendy' next year. If we have a different approach to seeing our purchases, we will spend our money differently and probably won't buy impulsively, saving us money that we can spend on other 'things' that matter to us. Building a wardrobe that fits your needs will sometimes be a little hard short term but more satisfying in the long run. It will be a personal collection that reflects who you are. When purchasing a clothing item, think about your future self. Would my future self be like this in one year, five years, etc? We think linen fits well in a conscious yet modern lifestyle. Linen is beautiful, and beauty will never go out of style. There are choices of materials; why do we choose linen as our main fabric? To be a sustainable clothing brand, we express our relationship with nature through what we use and make. There are many reasons why linen is MAAN's choice. We are going to explain next a few of the reasons why we choose linen for MAAN. Reason number one is its character and more friendly to the environment.
How eco-friendly is linen, and what is its relationship with nature?
The history of linen goes back to many thousand years ago. Nature has created a wonderful gift-flax, and humans turned it into beautiful fabric linen. No clothing production can help but affect the climate somehow, but linen is more gentle to the environment than many other natural and manufactured fibers. Flax, the plant from which linen is made, is also highly versatile. Every part of the flax plant has traditionally been used to create a worthwhile product- nothing is wasted. Because it's a natural fiber, flax linen is recyclable and biodegrades.
Linen is more substantial than other fabrics, which means clothing, curtain, or bed sheets made from linen are made to last rather than end up in a landfill. In some countries, linen fabrics can be recycled into paper and insulation materials for the car industry. The wastage level of linen is low. At MAAN, we fell in love with these beautiful traits of linen, which is why we chose it as our main fabric.
We, human beings, are a part of nature.
